I wasn’t sure what to expect with this novel. As the third part in the series, I wondered if it would be the conclusion or just another stepping stone. The description on the back made me think it was a stepping stone, but it turned out to be the conclusion. And what a conclusion it was! “Pendulum” ended with a bang and “Balance” picked up right where it left off. The novel started with action, then dwindled to story until about two-thirds of the way through, then delved right back into action. A good part of the story focused on background, love, change and much more. Ryder and Semara get married on her 18th birthday after a year of giving one another the silent treatment (thankfully most of that is skipped). They finally manage to find their way back together and realize how much stronger they are together than separate. By the end, the action blows up and jumpstarts the new life they dreamed of.
One of the things I loved about this book was the end. I hate when a series ends with a cliffhanger. It’s a huge tease. “Balance” has an epilogue at the end after the good guys have won. Perfect to answer the question all readers are left with, “Now what?” A wonderful surprise to show how all their dreams come true making their sacrifices worth it.
